Louis Bottern

Danish jazz vocalist and songwriter Louise Bøttern is rooted in the hip 1960’s vocal jazz gems, quirky and clever American Songs, and though strongly founded in swinging mainstream jazz, the fresh arrangements and original compositions leaves no doubt that this is contemporary, modern vocal jazz of today. With her second album ‘Listen Here’ (2022), circling around the human encounters that leads us to listen to our intuition, she emphasizes her musical style with hip, humorous song picks and personal, heartfelt interpretations. The two originals ‘Shine’ and ‘Cloudy Treasures’ shares her own stories of taking a leap of faith as an artist and coming to terms with a life without children. Tracks include originals by Thelonious Monk, Dave Brubeck, Betty Carter, Dave Frishberg and Blossom Dearie. This jazz vocalist is inspired by the great jazz vocalists Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Shirley Horn, Irene Kral and Nancy King – who’s voice she has been compared too. Graduating from the Jazz Dep. of The Royal Conservatory in The Hague, NL in 2004 she studied with Rachel Gould and was taught by jazz greats Barry Harris, Mark Murphy, Meredith d’Ambrosio and Deborah Brown – who wrote this about the debut album: “This is the kind of imaginative recording that’s needed today. Just so we won’t forget that jazz vocalists are a different breed, not an after thought of a commercial vocalist (..). A compilation of classic jazz wrapped in a cool, urban New York style.” Go to: louiseboettern.com
